Gibraltar is a tiny but mighty British Overseas Territory packed with history, mesmerising views, and surprising adventures. Despite its size, Gibraltar offers many experiences that can make your day unforgettable.
Things to Do in Gibraltar in One Day
So, let me get straight to the point without wasting your time. Here are my two suggested itineraries for spending 24 hours in Gibraltar during the summer season:
Itinerary 1
Spend Your Morning in Upper Rock Nature Reserve
1. Start your day by visiting the Upper Rock Nature Reserve and enjoying the stunning views. To save time, take a cable car ride to the Rock of Gibraltar and experience the joy of witnessing the beauty of the surrounding area while sitting in the cable car. The cable car begins at 9:30 a.m. If you plan to watch the sunrise from above, then hiking is best.
2. Explore St. Michael’s Cave, a fascinating limestone cave with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. It is a series of limestone caves formed over millions of years by the gradual dissolution of the rock by rainwater.
The cave is named after the Archangel Michael, who, according to legend, appeared to a group of soldiers here during a battle in 711 AD. Today, St. Michael’s Cave is a popular tourist attraction that hosts concerts and events annually. Inside the cave, you can explore its stunning formations, stalactites, and stalagmites and learn about its history and geology.
3. Visit the Moorish Castle to learn about Gibraltar’s history and enjoy panoramic views of the Strait of Gibraltar. The Moorish Castle in Gibraltar is a magnificent fortress that dates back to the 8th century. It is one of the most iconic landmarks in Gibraltar and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
The Moors built the castle during their occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. It was later used by the Spanish and the British. Today, the Moorish Castle is a notable tourist attraction and offers gorgeous views. Explore the towers, walls, and gardens when visiting this castle and learn about its fascinating history.
4. If you still have time, take a bus to Europa Point and visit Trinity Lighthouse.
Spend Afternoon in the City Centre

11. If you like to play casino games, try your hand at the Casino Admiral Gibraltar for some entertainment.
Itinerary 2
1. Morning – Wildlife Encounter
Begin your day by visiting the iconic Rock of Gibraltar and Gibraltar Nature Reserve, home to the famous Barbary macaques. These cheeky and charismatic monkeys are the only wild monkey population in Europe. Take a guided tour to observe these fascinating macaques in their natural habitat and learn about the conservation efforts to protect them.
Historical Exploration
Explore the Great Siege Tunnels, a network of tunnels and chambers carved out of the limestone during the Great Siege of Gibraltar. These tunnels are located at the northern end of Gibraltar Nature Reserve.
