Was it for a Christmas movie, or was it just a scene?
During my visit to Prague in mid-September, a sight that was completely unexpected and out of place caught my attention. As my husband and I strolled along Charles Bridge, we spotted a Christmas tree on Na Kampě Square, just below. The early Christmas preparations in a month not even remotely close to December left me intrigued and wondering about the festive spirit in Prague.
Then I saw Christmas stalls at a few places with food varieties, snow globes, tinsels, candles, roasted chestnuts, Mulled Wine, and baubles. I went near the Christmas tree and observed some people creating fake snowfall around the tree and stalls.
Further, I saw a man riding a Vespa multiple times on a cobbled stone street from one point to another. His background had hanging clothes on a wire and colourful Baroque buildings, and I was perplexed again, thinking, what’s happening here? The sight was both amusing and confusing, adding to the mystery of the scene.
Soon I heard a voice, “Cut,” and glimpsed an entire crew holding cameras and stopping the crowd from going near the wires. That’s when I realised it was a movie or web series set, and they were filming a scene. I couldn’t ask the name of it as they were busy, and I couldn’t find out whether it’s an international film or a local one, but I imagined it to be a rom-com with a Christmas theme, such as Christmas in Prague, I enjoy Christmas with You, etc.
The best part of this incident was that, along with the live film shooting, I could get the Christmas vibe of Prague, even if it was for a short span. The enchanting market, the meticulously created fake snow, the giant Christmas tree, and the stunning architecture in the backdrop all felt like a scene straight out of a fairy tale. Though it came from a director’s imagination, I am thankful that I witnessed this lovely Christmas theme set during my time in Prague.
Curiosity piqued, I’m sharing some pictures here. I’d love to hear from you if you have any information about this scene or the film being shot. Your insights are valuable to me, so please share them.
