In a world where travel is often reduced to checklists and perfectly timed itineraries, true luxury lies in something far more rare—slowing down. The kind of travelling that lets you breathe deeper, linger longer, and reconnect not just with a destination, but with each other as well.
When planning a holiday with my husband, I include playful, relaxing activities to help us make treasured memories and enjoy each destination’s unique vibe. Some days we rush to see attractions; other days, we sunbathe and nap on the sand.
Here I listed four fun things I do with my partner to help us de-stress while travelling, which you can also get inspired by.
Create a Sunset or Sunrise Ritual
We either start our day early to catch the sunrise with morning coffee, or we wind down our day while watching the sunset, irrespective of the type of destination. Whether it’s a coastal area or a mountainous region, or a hill in a city, we pick one moment in a day to pause, and we just get lost in the moment. We don’t use mobile phones to avoid distractions that hinder us from enjoying the moment. We sit together, hand in hand, and watch as nature plays its part.
These quiet rituals have a grounding effect. They give you time to reflect, reconnect, and express gratitude for the privilege of exploration.
Paint Travel Moments Together 🎨
Following our quiet sunset or sunrise ritual, we often switch gears and try a creative, hands-on activity together. There’s something incredibly soothing about putting brush to paper while the world slows down around you. We carry a mess free set of the portable Tobio’s Water Colour Kit that fits in our pockets and find a quiet spot—a sunlit balcony, a lakeside bench, or even our hotel window view; the kit has such pigmented colours that captures every shade.

Honestly speaking, none of us is an artist but their beginner workbook has pre-sketched illustrations that made it possible for us to start. Either it’s painting the colours of the sky, the outline of a building, or painting within the lines of a pre-sketched illustration in Tobio’s workbook, which gives us relaxation and allows us to enjoy creative and productive time together.
Over time, these little paintings become more than just art—they turn into deeply personal travel memories you have created side by side.

Get Lost Together on Purpose
When we were in Paris, we decided not to use Google Maps for an entire day. We randomly had breakfast at a cosy cafe, which we later declared a hidden gem on social media. Then we hired two electric scooters and began driving mindfully on footpaths and even on the main road, and we had a great experience. We did cafe hopping and enjoyed various train routes on a whim. That day was less about the itinerary and more about the discoveries we made as a team.
Like this, you can create a no-plan day for yourself and commit to zero planning. Wake up without any agenda and let the day unfold naturally, creating numerous unique moments for your duo.
Build a Unique Tradition
Create a ritual that only exists during your travels. For instance, I have created a tradition for both of us to collect souvenirs from places where we leave our footprints, and it’s not mandatory to buy them. I collect seashells from the beaches, tickets of booked activities, and restaurant bills, and my husband accumulates currencies and maps.
Gathering these souvenirs gives us memories and stories to store, ones that we can revisit and laugh over.
You can build traditions like writing one good memory of each day in your travel diary, or your most favourite moments from the trip.
To Sum It Up
Luxury travel is portrayed as more places, experiences, and indulgence, but the most meaningful journeys are often about less—less rushing, less noise, and less pressure to do it all.
When you slow down, you create space—for connection, for reflection, and for moments that feel genuinely yours.
So, the next time you travel as a couple, resist the urge to fill every hour. Instead, choose presence over pace, intention over itinerary.
A lot of “relaxing travel ideas” sound good, but still feel like activities you need to do. The ones I shared above work better because they take the pressure off rather than add to it, helping you genuinely unwind and enjoy the moment.
